On August 2, 2002, Norma was given the "keys to the city" of Las Vegas by Mayor Oscar B. Goodman.

In March 2002 she reached a milestone in her career by realizing one of her long-held dreams. She recorded twelve songs with the prestigious Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan in Mexico City under the direction of maestro Jose "Pepe" Martinez.

In 2001 she performed at the famous Teatro Blanquita in Mexico City.

 
     
 


She also performed at the Teatro Jorge Negrete in Mexcio City where she received awards of distinction from the A.N.D.A. (National Union of Performing Artists) and from Sebastian Berti of the Galeria de las Estrellas (Gallery of the Stars).

In 1993 she recorded an album for AFG Sigma of San Antonio, Texas.For this project Norma performed ten of her best compositions of ballads and ranchero boleros. The album, entitled "Secrets of the Heart" was well received in the United States and her first release "Vete" was a hit on the radio charts in October 1993.

In 1992 Norma Montiel distinguished herself by appearing in a series of programs televised internationally from Mexico (ECO) and hosted by then popular personalities like Juan "El Gallo" Calderon, Talina Fernandez, Victor Gordoa, Jaime Almeida and the late Jorge Riancho.

In 1991 she recorded her first album of ranchero music in Mexico City under the direction of maestro Rigoberto Alfaro. With one of her compositions from that album entitled "La Verdad", she won an award at the "Vicente Fernandez" Festival in Tamaulipas, Mexico.

She was the winner of the "Best Female Singer of 1990" award of the International Star Search Program hosted then by Fernando Allende, which was televised in Spanish internationally from Hollywood, California.
